I highly recommend Steve Johnson's DDEdtext.LSP for editing all types of text-like entities in AutoCAD. One of the many outstanding features of Steve's program is that he has designed the user interface dialog so that it may be customized by the user. Here is how I have customized my own copy of Steve's ddedtext.dcl:

Please refer to comments in the file header for additional information on the customized version. Please note that while the author of DDEdtext, who is Steve Johnson, has designed this file to be customizable by the licensed user, the file itself remains his property, since it is his original work, and is subject to the laws of international copyright.
Please refer to the documentation supplied with the original version of the program for an explanation of how to customize the dcl dialog. As always when customizing software, it is advisable as a precaution to keep a copy of the original dcl file as supplied by the author, in case you wish to restore the original functioning of the program.
The shareware version of DDEdtext is available from Steve Johnson's website: cad nauseam
